About the school
A private university founded in 1949. It has 37,854 students, including 612 international students (undergraduate 478 · graduate 134). There are 1,404 faculty members, 67 of them from outside Japan. It has exchange agreements with 276 universities in 52 countries and regions. It has 5 campuses (Higashi-Osaka, Nara, Wakayama, Hiroshima, Fukuoka); which one you attend depends on your department.

EJU subjects · 渡日前：日本語必須。文芸・国際は総合科目も必須。農は数学コース2または理科を選択。経営・薬は募集なし。英米文学専攻の基礎学力科目出題言語は英語。その他は渡日前要項の学部別指定に従う。

Good to know before applying
- People with a residence status other than "Student" (permanent resident, long-term resident, dependent, designated activities, etc.) cannot apply, even if they plan to change to "Student" later. The second round is only for those who hold "Student".
- If the full set of documents does not arrive within the application period, it is not accepted for any reason (no bringing in person, and submitted documents are not returned).
- If you graduated from a school in China, you are not eligible to apply unless the designated CSSD (Xuexin) certificate can be issued. International high schools are generally not eligible.
- You cannot choose multiple places to apply. You cannot apply to the first-round exam and the pre-arrival exam at the same time.
- If you skip even one subject, all of your exams are invalid. If you are 30 minutes or more late, you cannot take the exam.

Tuition for students entering in the 2026 academic year (the 2027 amounts have not been announced). The ¥904,500 for the Faculty of International Studies does not include the first-year study abroad costs. The examination fee is ¥29,000 only for the Faculty of Humanity-Oriented Science and Engineering. Separately, a lifetime alumni association fee of ¥30,000, etc.

Scholarships
- Scholarship student status for international students (first year) — those with especially excellent entrance exam evaluations get tuition fully waived except the base cost portion (you pay ¥20,000 per year). 2 students selected in the 2025 academic year.
- Grant No. 1 (first year) — a lump sum equal to the admission fee. 9 students selected in the 2025 academic year.
- Grant No. 2 (second year and above) — ¥80,000 per month (for 1 year, excluding August and September). 20 students selected in the 2025 academic year.
